The Chinese delegation arrived in Nanjing Wednesday afternoon for the Youth Olympic Games.

The delegation arrived at the East China city via high speed rail, and apart from the football and basketball teams, the entire team are now in the capital of Jiangsu province.

Unlike other Olympics, the Nanjing Games will not have a medal tally. So young athletes will not be under pressure to get good results and can instead spend more time enjoying their events and making friends.

During registration, the Chinese athletes received a small present from the organizers, an electronic device containing their personal information. Participants can use the gadgets to exchange information with each other.

"Our main goal this time is to hold friendly exchanges with athletes around the world, and promote Chinese culture. We will form joint teams with foreign competitors in 15 disciplines," Chinese delegation official Chang Yao said.

Rain forecast for Opening Ceremony on August 16

On Wednesday, heavy rain hit Nanjing, a city famous for summer heat and humidity. Though the downpour helped cool things down, it also raised concerns about the weather for the opening ceremony, which will be held Saturday night, when rain is forecast.

The Youth Olympic Weather Station will closely monitor any weather changes.
