The second Fuzhou Creative Design Week opening ceremony was held at the "Three Lanes and Seven Alleys," a landmark of Fuzhou city, on August 13.

"Fu," as the theme of the design week and exhibition, means happiness and blessing in Chinese. Designers and artists from both Taiwan and the Chinese mainland shared their unique understandings of "fu" culture and converted it into exquisite artworks.

Inspired by "fu" culture, designers demonstrated their creative ideas with tea sets, potteries and wood crafts.

As a traditional form of art in Fuzhou, bodiless lacquerware is widely used in the artworks displayed in the exhibition hall at 75 Nan Jie Street. The exhibition will last until August 19.

Liao Boqing, a representative designer of Taiwan, addressed a short speech at the opening ceremony. "Culture is a core value, industry is a channel of transmission, while creative thinking is a link for those two. All three elements are essential," said Liao.

He considered the design week a platform for designers from both sides of the Taiwan Straits to communicate with each other and share experiences.

He Jingyan, a member of the Fuzhou municipal Party committee and minister of the publicity department, presented the certificates to the award-winning designers.

Fuzhou has been devoted to developing the "cross-Straits cultural tourism" brand in recent years. The city is mapping out an interactive mechanism for cultural exchange. The design week, as a move to propel the brand, has taken the process a stage further.

The event was co-hosted by the Fuzhou municipal publicity department, Fuzhou Communist committee cultural and ideological progress promotion office, Fuzhou municipal economic and trade committee, and Fuzhou association for science and technology. It was organized by Fujian Redtown Culture Development Co, the administrative committee of Three Lanes and Seven Alleys, the Taiwan Creativity Development Association and the National Taipei University of Technology.
