A man is in custody for taking a city bus for a shirtless joyride and then running from police in Guangzhou, Guangdong province.
Police detained a man surnamed Zou, 25, for allegedly stealing a bus parked at a terminal. No passengers were aboard the BRT bus and the keys were left inside.
"We were changing shifts. I did not expect someone would drive our bus away," said the driver, who alerted police of the theft around 5 pm.
The half-naked Zou drove for three kilometers before police on motorcycles managed to force the vehicle to a stop.
The suspect then exited and gave chase on foot for 400 meters before being apprehended.
Police explained they relied on the city's traffic surveillance camera system to locate the bus.
"I saw a BRT bus not driving in its designated lane and there were no passengers," said an officer surnamed Cai who was involved in the arrest.
Zou later told police he stole the bus because he was too tired to walk and did not have bus fare. He saw a bus parked on roadside and decided to drive it home.
Zou was arrested on charges of endangering public security.
