China's largest freshwater lake, Poyang, boasts 236 species of bird, according to a two-year survey.
Among them are endangered species such as oriental white stork and white crane, and 100 are wintering migrants, said an official of Jiangxi Province, home to the lake.
An updated database about wildlife, hydrology and pollution of the lake is basically complete, said the official on Saturday.
The survey started in Aug. 2012 with the participation of more than 400 people. A previous survey was conducted in the 1980s.
Poyang Lake is renowned for its rich fishing, but in recent years, drought and over-exploitation have endangered the lake's resources.
