The 22-year-old Chinese Wang Qiang enjoyed a career milestone by winning in her first Grand Slam match at the US Open first round on Tuesday.
Wang beat Paula Kania from Poland 6-2, 6-0.
"The match was much tougher than what the score shows," said Wang after the match. "I was just lucky to win in my first Grand Slam match."
Wang was aiming to move into the WTA Top 100 ranking and the second-round-or-better show in the US Open would be a great help to achieve her goal.
Wang was the third Chinese player to enter 2014 U.S. Open last 64 following opening victories of Peng Shuai and Zheng Saisai. Her next opponent would be 29th-seeded Australian Casey Dellacqua.
