Chinese Peng Shuai beat 4th-seed Agnieszka Radwanska in straight sets 6-3, 6-4 on Wednesday to advance into the US Open third round.
The two players met four times before the match, each of the four needed a third set.
"I played her four times and I won only once, and that was in the US Open four years ago," said 28-year-old Peng.
"So from the long time the luck may be coming back today."
Peng was broken in the very first game, but she managed to break back in the fourth game to tie the score 2-2. Radwanska lost her serve in the eighth game, and Peng took the chance to finish the first set 6-3 after holding her own in the ninth game.
The second set went in favor of Peng. The world number 39 player broke in the fifth game to take the lead, and turned the third match point to a winner of the match.
"Really happy and really exciting," said Peng about the match.
"She's very solid player, very consistent from both sides, playing very good from the back," said Radwanska about Peng.
Radwanska would go home for a rest and prepare for the Asian series including Seoul, Wuhan, and Beijing.
Peng is to take on 28th-seeded Italian Roberta Vinci in the third round.
