Chinese publishers stepping out of China

As a traditional platform for domestic publishers to show readers their newest books, the 2014 BIBF (Beijing International Book Fair) also delivers a strong signal that an increasing amount of publishers are emphasizing markets overseas.

Copyrights and overseas expansion have been hot topics at this year's BIBF, which started Thursday and is scheduled to run until Sunday. By showing signature works that are widely known both in the country and abroad, domestic publishers have been trying to attract more attention from their overseas counterparts in order to facilitate the introduction of domestic books overseas.

"We must closely adhere to two core topics when promoting domestic books overseas: traditional Chinese culture and the Chinese way of development," said Tan Yue, CEO of the China Publishing Group Corporation (CPGC).

To emphasize the important role translation plays in introducing Chinese works overseas, on Sunday and Monday, the first International Translation Forum was held by the CPGC in Qingdao, Shandong Province, as part of this year's BIBF.
