Three men in Huizhou, Guangdong province, were burned on Friday when fireworks in a car were ignited by lit firecrackers thrown outside the car but blown back into the vehicle by the wind.
Huang Wensheng, who suffered 60 percent burns, was in a car in a fleet traveling from the village of Bingtang to Danshui town to pick up a bride for her wedding in the early morning, Southern Metropolis Daily reported.
Shortly after they set out, Huang and Xie Zhifeng started to throw lit firecrackers out of the car, which is a common local practice when celebrating.
About three of eight sets of firecrackers thrown were blown back into the car and ignited the other fireworks, causing explosions and a large fire.
Huang, Xie and the driver were rescued by other people traveling in the fleet, and Xie and the driver both suffered 30 percent burns.
