During the 1930s to 1940s, a huge number of Jewish refugees fled to Shanghai to escape the Holocaust. To honor their years in the city, a wall of names listing each Jewish refugee has been unveiled at the Shanghai Jewish Refugee Museum.
After rounds of fact checking and corrections, the list now contains 13,732 names in total. And according to the museum's curator, an empty space has been left in case any changes need to be made in the future. He also said that the wall symbolized the help offered by local residents to Jewish groups at that critical time, and the friendship that has grown between the city and the Jewish people.
