Two prison officers have been placed under investigation after three inmates escaped from a detention center in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province.
The director of the Yanshou County detention center Zhang Gequn and deputy director Fan Deyan may have seriously violated the regulations on law enforcement in detention centers, the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) said Friday in a statement.
The two officers' dereliction has had grave consequences and were placed on file for investigation by the procuratorate of Harbin City, it said.
SPP staff are in Heilongjiang to assist the jailbreak investigation.
Three inmates Wang Damin, Gao Yulun and Li Haiwei wearing police uniforms escaped from the detention center after killing a guard at around 4:40 a.m. on Tuesday. Police have recaptured two of the inmates. The third is still on the run.
Wang, 35, was awaiting sentencing on assault charges. Gao, 50, was awaiting review of his death penalty for homicide. Li, 29, was awaiting sentencing for homicide.
The fugitives, all Yanshou locals, are not armed, according to the provincial public security bureau.
