Chinese Minister of Public Security Guo Shengkun on Thursday met with Souvone Leuangbounmy, chief of general staff of the Lao People's Army, pledging to enhance law enforcement cooperation along the Mekong River.

Guo, also a state councilor, called on Laos to continue to support law enforcement and security cooperation along the Mekong River, which runs through China, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, and Cambodia.

Guo said that cooperation has safeguarded the security of vessels and regional stability along the Mekong River, and China hopes it will contribute to the peace, stability and development of China, Laos and other countries in the region.
