President Xi Jinping met with a delegation of Hong Kong's industrial and business circles at the Great Hall of the People on Monday.

Since Hong Kong's return to the motherland in 1997, the policy of "One Country, Two Systems" has been implemented in a sound manner, and Hong Kong retains its prosperity and social stability, Xi said when meeting with the delegation headed by Tung Chee-hwa.

He stressed that "One Country, Two Systems" is a basic state policy and pushing forward the practice of the policy is a common wish of all Chinese people, including Hong Kong compatriots.

It not only complies with the fundamental interests of the nation and the long-term interests of Hong Kong but is also in line with the interests of non-local investors, he said.

The central government's basic principle and policy toward Hong Kong has not changed and will not change, said Xi, adding that the central government will unswervingly implement the policy of "One Country, Two Systems" and the Basic Law, and support the steady development of democracy in Hong Kong.

Xi expressed the hope that people from all circles in Kong Kong could make concerted efforts for a better future of the region and contribute to the modernization drive and the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
