China pocketed four gold medals, as well as one bronze, in the Asian Games rowing tournament on Wednesday.

Despite rains and low temperature, Chinese athletes proved a class abover their opponents to win gold in the women's pair, women's double sculls, the men's quadruple sculls and the lightweight women's quadruple sculls.

But in the lightweight men's double sculls, China only took the bronze medal with Japan grabbing gold and Hong Kong of China getting silver.

The key to victory was "to paddle to the best of our capabilities, seize opportunities and never give up," Miao Tian said after winning the women's pair.

The race against China was "very difficult", according to Svetlana Germanovich of Kazakhstan, who won silver in the women's double sculls.

"We wanted to catch up, but they (Chinese players) were simply stronger," she said, dismissing the cold weather as a factor that affected their performance.

But, Lee Ka Man from Hong Kong of China, who took silver in the women's single sculls, said the quite strong wind and rough water conditions made the race harder.

"Silver is not bad, but not great. Just a little bit disappointed," said Lee, who briefly held a lead in the race but eventually finished second behind Kim Yeji of South Korea.

The lightweight men's single sculls went to Hong Kong's Lok Kwan-hoi.

China is set to compete for five of seven more gold medals in rowing on Thursday.
