China welcomes participation from Bangladesh in the development of the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, a senior official said in Beijing on Thursday.
Zhao Hongzhu, member of the Secretariat of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remark while meeting with a delegation from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).
Zhao, also deputy secretary of the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI), said China hopes to promote common development of the two countries by advancing regional trade and economic cooperation, intercommunication, infrastructure development and people-to-people exchanges.
Zhao said China highly appreciates the China-friendly policies from the BNP and successive governments of Bangladesh.
The BNP delegation is headed by Abdul Moyeen Khan, a member of the BNP National Standing Committee.
Khan said Bangladesh and China share a long-standing friendship. He expressed the readiness to step up bilateral cooperation on economy, social development, people-to-people exchanges and regional affairs.
The BNP is the leading opposition party in Bangladesh. Ex-Prime Minister Khaleda Zia now serves as Chairman of the party.
