The foreign ministers of BRICS countries agreed on Thursday to strengthen solidarity, build closer economic ties and promote trade and investment cooperation.

BRICS countries should boost communication and coordination on the fight against terrorism and control of the Ebola virus, on the Palestine issue and the Ukraine crisis, the ministers agreed at a meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.

They supported UN-led commemoration activities to mark the 70th anniversary of the founding of the world body and the victory of World War II.

The ministers also reaffirmed their countries' commitment to safeguarding a fair and equal world order based on the UN Charter.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said this year's BRICS summit in Fortaleza, Brazil, injected new vitality to the BRICS mechanism, which groups Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.

Wang urged BRICS members to jointly map out a strategic blueprint for future economic cooperation and launch a development bank and an emergency reserve fund.

BRICS countries should conduct regular coordination on major international political and security affairs and put forward political settlement proposals to international hotspot issues, so as to promote the influence of BRICS countries, he said.
