Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with his French counterpart Laurent Fabius on Friday to exchange views on bilateral ties and international issues of major concern on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
Wang said that the exchange of high-level visits between China and France has maintained a sound momentum since the beginning of this year, that practical cooperation in various fields keeps bearing new fruits, and that activities marking the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and France have reached one climax after another.
All these show that China-France relations are operating at a high level, he said.
According to Wang, the current international landscape is far from tranquil, and China and France, as two permanent members of the UN Security Council, should work hand in hand in dealing with terrorism, the Ebola epidemic, climate change and other issues.
For his part, Fabius said that France-China relations have made new and major progress this year.
Extraordinarily grand activities marking the 50th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral relations have achieved full success, demonstrating that the friendship and cooperation between France and China have been deeply rooted among the two peoples, he said.
The French side is ready to enhance practical cooperation with China, maintain close coordination on major international and regional issues and constantly advance the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries, said the minister.
