Former China Open champion Caroline Wozniacki hopes the result will be different at China Open if she meets defending champion Serena Williams for the fifth time this year.
The Danish sixth seed was drawn in the same quarter with Williams and could meet her in the quarterfinals.
"It's the best players here in the world are playing, so it's obviously a very hard tournament to play," said the 23-year-old who got a bye in the first round and faces Samantha Stosur of Australia in the second.
"I think I'm in the quarter with Serena, so it's obviously not easy," she added. Wozniacki lost nine matches in their 10 meetings, four in this year, including the US Open final.
Wozniacki, however, thought she stood a chance to break the spell.
"I like the hard courts here. It's a good pace for my game," said the 2010 champion.
"In the end of the day, it's one of the last tournaments of the year so we are all a little tired," she said. "It's the end of the year and you never know what happens."
Wozniacki now ranks seventh with 4500 points, is one of the candidates to make the year-end final in Singapore. If she wins here, she can collect 1,000 points to make sure her qualification and a runner-up finish will bring her 650. So this week weighs a lot.
"I think about this tournament first and I really want to go to Singapore. That's definitely a big goal of mine," she said. "Last year I was there as an alternate and it wasn't much fun. Hopefully this year I can actually play."
