A bronze-coated concrete pagoda in a tourist destination in south China's Guilin City caught fire Wednesday morning.

Firefighters put off the fire, which had lasted for more than two hours, the fire department said.

The double pagodas, dubbed "Sun and Moon" in the Fir Lake, were rebuilt in 2001, on the foundation of something dated back to the Tang Dynasty (618-907 AD). They have been among the tourist landmarks of Guilin, Guangxi.

The "Sun Pagoda" which caught fire was 41 meters tall and made of 350 tonnes of bronze.
