China, US need to make good preparations for Obama's China visit: FM

China and the United States need to make good preparations for the visit to China by US President Barack Obama in November, in order to gain more tangible results in pushing forward the construction of a new model of bilateral ties, China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi said Tuesday.

Wang, who is visiting the US, made the remarks during a meeting with former US National Security Advisor Thomas Donilon in Washington.

Obama is scheduled to attend the informal leaders' meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) to be held in Beijing in November and hold a summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Wang said that, for the sake of genuinely implementing the consensus on building a new model of major-country relationship, China and the US first need to create mutual trust, dispel mutual suspicion and prevent strategic miscalculation, especially in the Asian-Pacific region where the two countries' interests converge deeply.

The top Chinese diplomat added that the two sides must see to it that the bilateral ties "will always move forward in the right direction."

Earlier Tuesday, Wang also held a meeting with former US National Security Advisor Zbigniew Brzezinski, during which the two exchanged views in an in-depth way on new changes in international and regional situations.

Wang reiterated that China is committed to maintaining world peace and regional stability, and is willing to enhance mutual strategic communication with the US and strengthen bilateral cooperation on tackling top international and regional issues on the basis of mutual respect.

Brzezinski noted that today's world is facing a range of challenges, many of whom cannot be easily managed -- let alone be solved, if without the cooperation between China and the US.

He expressed the hope that the two powers will be firmly committed to solidifying mutual coordination and cooperation in safeguarding world peace, development and stability, which are in the best interests of both sides.

Donilon said it is in the interests of both China and the US to build a new model of major-country relationship, and the two sides have to continue expanding areas of cooperation and managing mutual differences.

He urged the two countries to work together to ensure the success of Obama's November visit to China, which is very important to China-US ties and will greatly push forward the construction of the new model of major-country relationship.
