DPRK leader to attend 17th Asiad closing ceremony

Hwang Pyong So, leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), will attend the closing ceremony of the 17th Asian Games in the city of Incheon in South Korea, the official KCNA news agency reported Saturday.

Hwang, newly-elected vice chairman of the DPRK National Defense Commission (NDC) and director of the General Political Bureau of the Korean People's Army, has left here for Incheon to participate in the closing ceremony due to be held Saturday evening, according to KCNA.

He was accompanied by Choe Ryong Hae and Kim Yang Gon, secretaries of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK).

In the second session of the 13th Supreme People's Assembly on Sept. 25, Hwang was elected vice chairman of the, the top military body of the country, taking place of Choe Ryong Hae.

Choe is one of the three-member Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the WPK.

The 17th Asian Games were held in South Korea's western port city of Incheon from Sept. 19 to Oct. 4.

South Korea's Unification Minister Ryoo Kihl-jae is expected to hold talks with Hwang, according to South Korea's Yonhap News Agency.
