Chinese tourist attractions received 20.61 million visitors from Wednesday to Saturday, the first four days of the seven-day National Day holiday, official data showed.
The figure was up 1.25 percent from the same period last year, according to the China National Tourism Administration. The data were collected from 124 tourist sites across the country.
Ticket revenue from tourists was 1.07 billion yuan (175.22 million U.S. dollars) in the first four days, down 4.75 percent from the same period last year.
Scenic spots have been providing catering and entertainment, though widespread temperature drops have dampened many people's travel plans, according to the administration.
The scenic spots have been promoting etiquette during travel, such as orderly queueing and litter prevention. Trash removed from Tian'anmen Square after the flag-raising ceremony on Oct. 1 was about 30 percent less than a year earlier, according to the administration.
