Zoo animals suffer from diabetes

According to zoo keepers at the Beijing Zoo, many primates suffer from diabetes due to tourists feeding them against the rules of the zoo. The roughly 80,000 tourists who visited the zoo each day during the National Day holidays have made the situation worse, reported the Beijing Youth Daily.

Signs are placed throughout the zoo strictly prohibiting visitors feeding the animals, with more keepers and volunteers enforcing the rules. Although the animals are protected by glass fences and railings, people throw food to the animals or crumble up bread to fit it through the bars.
