A Sino-American hospital is to be established in south China's Guangdong Province, according to an agreement signed on Tuesday.
Funded by a Chinese healthcare investment company, MGH Hospital China will be run by Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and Guangdong Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
The agreement describes a state of the art hospital with technology, equipment and personnel from MGH, alongside a research and teaching center to train Chinese staff. Other projects will encourage integration of traditional Chinese medicine with western medicine.
Founded in 1811, MGH was the first--and is still the biggest--teaching hospital attached to Harvard Medical School. With 500 beds, MGH Hospital China will be based on Hengqin Island in Zhuhai City, close to Macao.
The new hospital will provide Chinese patients with first-class medical care while expanding the global reach of traditional Chinese medicine.
