A senior leader of the Communist Party of China (CPC) on Friday called for non-stop improvement to Party members' work style after a just-concluded campaign put a check on misbehavior.

"Experiences from the campaign should be carefully summarized, with continuous effort to deepen style improvement and push forward strict management of the Party," Liu Yunshan, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, told a meeting for central inspection groups, which were sent to regions to supervise the campaign.

The "mass-line" campaign began in June last year to improve the flagging relationship between CPC officials and the general public, by cleaning up undesirable work styles such as formalism, bureaucracy, hedonism and extravagance.

Empty speeches, interminable meetings, lavish banquets and entertainment at VIP clubs were all targets of the campaign. Focused on officials at or above county level, Party members examined their own conduct, laid their problems bare, analyzed the causes and made plans to set things right.

Liu praised Party organizations and members nationwide for their "active responses and voluntary participation" in the campaign while hailing the public for their support and supervision.

He also expressed appreciation for the role of central inspection teams, praising their "meticulous, persuasive and effective" supervision.

During the campaign, the number of official meetings was reduced by almost 25 percent from the equivalent period before the campaign to 586,000. Almost 115,000 vehicles were taken out of illicit private use and returned to exclusive regular government affairs. Construction of 2,580 unnecessary official buildings was stopped.
