An international cutlery fair to promote locally made knives and scissors is being held in Yangjiang, Guangdong province.
Yangjiang has more than 1,500 companies that manufacture cutlery, with the industrial output value reaching 43 billion yuan ($7.02 billion) in 2013, according to the local government.
The city produces about 70 percent of China's total output of cutlery. The city's export of knives, scissors and other bladed items makes up about 85 percent of the country's total exports of cutlery, covering more than 140 countries and regions.
"Amid the uncertain global demand, the fair will help boost business for local cutlery exporters," said Liang Suoyi, deputy general secretary of Yangjiang city government.
