Men suffering from sexual performance problems were offered free consultations at more than 25 andrology and urology departments in 12 cities across the country to mark the Men's Health Day.

Men's Health Day falls on October 28 each year in China. Since 2000 the The National Health and Planning Commission have been holding events to raise public awareness for men's health.

The charity programs held by the China Sexology Association aim to raise public awareness for male health and quality of sex life, according to Zhang Zhichao, president-elect of the association.

Previous surveys held by the association showed that up to 31 percent of Chinese males aged 25 to 45 suffer from premature ejaculation (PE). However, 83 percent of those surveyed did not seek medical help due to low awareness and shyness.

"Many come too late to get help. Some have even gotten divorced for that (PE)," Zhang noted.

Early symptoms of PE can be cured by behavior intervention and drug treatment, Zhang says. Cooperation from the wife is highly helpful to the therapy, he adds.

The clinical definition of PE is ejaculation within 15 seconds from the start of sexual intercourse.

According to Zhang, more than 90 percent of PE sufferers resort to self treatment options such as intentional condom use and distraction during sex.

Unfortunately, 70 percent fail and thus turn to doctors for help, he said.

Zhang urges men with the problem to seek medical help as soon as possible and that wives of patients be as nice and patient as possible.
