Police in south China's Guangdong Province said a prisoner that had escaped Saturday had been recaptured Sunday afternoon.
This is China's second such reported incident in less than two months.
The 28-year-old fugitive, Li Mengjun, was arrested near Beijiang Prison in Shaoguan City, at about 2:30 p.m. Sunday, the provincial prison management bureau said in a statement, without elaborating.
Li and another inmate attempted to escape the Beijiang Prison Saturday morning. Li escaped, while the other inmate fell afoul of the prison's electrified wire netting and was recaptured at the scene.
Local police and paramilitary officers launched a manhunt and set up blocks on nearby roads to help locate Li.
Li was sentenced to death with a reprieve for robbery in 2006. Before he fled incarceration, he had 19 years and nine months of his sentence remaining.
Chen Dachao, provincial prison management bureau deputy chief, said lessons should be learned from this incident.
In early September, three inmates escaped from a detention center after killing a guard in the northeastern Chinese province of Heilongjiang.
