Chinese students are heading overseas at younger ages than previously, with the number studying at United States high schools reaching 23,795 last year, 365 times greater than in 2007, a report by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences said.
Students receiving primary and high school education in foreign countries now accounts for a fifth of the total Chinese overseas pupils.
The United States, Australia, Japan and Great Britain are the top destinations for Chinese students, the report said.
