Tibetan Culture week opened in Vancouver of Canada on Sunday. The two-week event is aimed at giving Canadians a real insight into Tibet and its traditional culture. It later moves onto Toronto and the capital, Ottawa.
The culture week kicked off with ribbon-cutting, performances of Tibetan folk songs and dances and the screening of a documentary film entitled "Roof of the World", which tells the touching stories of the Tibetan people from a new angle. The film vividly reflects the Tibetan peoples' s pursuit of truth, goodness and beauty.
"It will perhaps open the door to people thinking more about Tibet. Understanding the history of Tibet and more complex issues take a lot of efforts, so through films, and cultural performances and people can perhaps have their curiosity and interest stimulated, so they can perhaps try to find out a little bit more about the area and about its history," said Dr. Paul Crowe, Director of David See-chai Lam Center for Int'l Communication.
"I am very fascinated by the culture of Tibet and history and Tangka painting, the dance and I think what's very interesting is that the history of communications between nations when nations are first getting to know each other, the first communications are always being culture," said Global Business Network Consultant Michael Harding.
The culture week runs till November 15th. It will also include a series of seminars and discussions between Tibetologists and the local people .
Organizers are hoping such cultural exchange activities will deepen the Canadian people's understanding of the history and present of Tibet and strengthen Sino-Canadian ties.
Tibetan Culture Week will showcase the political, economic, cultural and social achievements Tibet has made over the past decades. It will serve as a platform through which the Canadian people will have the chance to take a closer look at Tibet and know the region and its culture better.
