One child died and another one was seriously injured after being stabbed by a woman suspected of mental illness in south China on Sunday.
The 40-year-old woman attacked two children in Beihai City of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region at around 10 a.m. A three-year-old boy died while his nine-year-old sister is being treated for severe head injuries in the hospital, local authorities said. The girl's condition is stable.
The suspect together with murder weapons were seized by police. An initial investigation showed that the woman has mental illness.
According to the victims' father Zhou Yulian, his children were playing with two cousins at home when the woman came in. The woman picked the knife and dagger at the victim's house and rushed to stab the children.
The boy suffered multiple wounds, Zhou said.
The girl managed to run out of the house, but the attacker continued to chase until being stopped by villagers who were alerted by the girl's call for help.
