China's Ministry of Public Security (MPS) said Tuesday that police around the country had seized 12.1 tonnes of drugs of various kinds since October when a special campaign was launched.
About 24,000 suspects were apprehended, and about 100,000 drug addicts dealt with, the MPS said in a nationwide videophone conference.
The campaign was launched by the MPS in October and will last for six months.
In 19 provincial regions, including Guangdong, Sichuan, Fujian, Jiangsu and Guangxi, the police uncovered 118 cases involving drug making. A total of 131 drug factories were closed down and 149 tons of materials seized.
In the southwestern frontier province of Yunnan, the police strengthened efforts in cutting off inflows of drugs from other countries.
The MPS uncovered 10 cases involving drug trafficking in cooperation with their Tajik counterparts, seizing over 67 kg of drugs.
