China donates medical supplies to Togo

The Chinese government on Thursday donated medical supplies worth 5 million yuan (about 820,000 US dollars) to assist Togo in its Ebola virus disease prevention and response strategy.

Chinese ambassador to Togo Liu Yishi presented the donation to Togolese Prime minister Ahoomey-Zunu Seleagodji, in the presence of World health organization representative Lucile Imboua and other Togolese officials.

The medical supplies include medical clothing, protective goggles, knapsack sprayers, emergency kits and ultraviolet ray germicidal lamps.

Liu said that a Chinese mission of public health experts will shortly arrive in Togo to assist the West African country and to provide anti-epidemic technical training.

"This assistance will open a new chapter of the friendly cooperation ties between Togo and China," the ambassador said.

"We are not surprised of such assistance to us from a country like China," said Prime Minister Ahoomey-Zunu, noting a "longstanding beneficial active cooperation" between the two countries.

"This is of great support for us," he said.

No Ebola virus case has been detected up to now in Togo.
