President Xi Jinping's visit to Fiji hailed as historic

President Xi Jinping will visit Fiji on the last leg of his tour of the Oceanic region. The significance of the trip has grabbed many people's attention as it should help China and Fiji to develop a friendly and cooperative partnership.  [Special coverage]

Fiji, with a beautiful landscape and boundless business opportunities, is the shining pearl of the south Pacific. It' also the first Pacific Island country to establish diplomatic ties with China.

President Xi Jinping's visit is being considered as historic as it bids to boost bilateral relations to a new level.

China and Fiji signed an agreement in 2005 to help boost each other's tourism industries. China has provided preferential market access to Fijian products and also offers assistance to boost the local economic development.

Many say China-Fiji trade cooperation has broad prospect and there are still many more opportunities in various fields.

Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1975, China and Fiji have maintained friendly relations. The two share common interests in many areas, including trade and investment, energy security, climate change and the preservation of marine resources. It's expected that further south-south cooperation between China and Fiji will bring even more benefit to both countries.
