Heavy smog that shrouded northern and eastern China in recent days will weaken on Monday due to cold front but is likely to reappear soon afterwards, the country's meteorological authority said on Sunday.

The National Meteorological Center (NMC) forecast cold air and rainfall will dispel the continuous smog, which, however, will develop again after the cold front moves away.

In addition, some of the country's southern part will see medium to heavy rainfall on Monday, with precipitation up to 60mm in some regions of Hunan, Hubei, Henan, Anhui and Jiangsu provinces, the NMC said.

In the next three days, a cold front will sweep across Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, causing temperature drops of up to 12 degrees Celsius, strong winds and even blizzards in some regions.
