Chinese Premier Li Keqiang called for efforts to improve the country's medical training system by breaking barriers between medical colleges and hospitals.

A national meeting was held on Thursday to promote the reform of clinicians training system.

In a written instruction to the meeting, Li said coordinating resources between medical colleges and hospitals is an effective training method.

"The public needs more high quality health guardians," he said.

The premier asked the Ministry of Education, the National Health and Family Planning Commission and related government agencies to intensify their efforts on reforming the training system and be more attentive to public demand.

The government agencies should explore effective measures to help medical colleges and hospitals complement each other and speed up the construction of a training system for medical personnel, he said.

Medical graduate internships, post graduate rotation and clinical teachers involve administrative assignment of both medical colleges and hospitals.

In China, however, medical colleges and hospitals are governed by different departments, making a coordinated system especially important for ensuring quality training for medical personnel.
