South China's Guangdong Province on Friday reported its first case of human infection of the H7N9 strain of bird flu this winter.
A 31-year-old woman surnamed Deng from the city of Dongguan was confirmed being infected with the H7N9 virus on Friday, the Guangdong provincial health and family planning commission said in a statement.
The patient, who is under treatment at a hospital in the provincial capital of Guangzhou, is in critical condition.
