China's Internet users have selected 10 individuals or groups of people as grassroots heroes, or China's "Good Samaritans," for the fourth quarter of 2014.
The winners were unveiled on late Thursday following a week-long vote by hundreds of thousands of web users, according to an announcement by the event's initiator and sponsor, Xinhua News Agency.
They include 65-year-old Shen Senbiao, who overcame various kinds of difficulty to repay his debts to 106 creditors over a period of 30 years; Jiang Deming, a paraplegic and cancer patient who promoted agrotechniques for more than 30 years and Xiong Guilin, a postman who spent 24 years serving elderly people.
Also among the winners is a service team made up of Communist Party of China members who helped AIDS patients get over difficulties.
The vote, held since 2010, is conducted quarterly to promote ordinary people's good deeds and improve moral awareness in society.
