Beijing has officially embarked on the task of improving teaching methods in its primary and middle schools. The Beijing Municipal Commission of Education will release detailed guidelines on improvements on class schedules and teaching content by the end of this year, the Beijing Daily reported.
The guidelines will cover subjects including reading, traditional Chinese culture, and science.
The commission released mandates on Chinese and English language teaching for primary and middle schools on November 13. These include requirements to increase the focus on listening and speaking in English classes, in addition to spending more classtime on traditional Chinese culture.
