More than 1,000 environmental violation cases have been investigated and over 20 million yuan ($3.25 million) fine collected since municipal pollution control regulations were put in action in March, according to Beijing municipal Environmental Protection Bureau, reported chinanews.com on Monday.

The city's environment protection agency has set aside the first week from March to December as air pollution law-enforcement section. Major issues related to pollution are tackled every week.

With the December already underway, Beijing will focus on monitoring the elimination of waste gas of the coal as the heating supply in winter will become the main cause of air pollution in the capital.

Actions such as illegal emission of waste gas will be strictly punished.

The air pollution regulations issued in March has been called the strictest move to curb smog.
