The Twelfth Plenary Session of the China-US Joint Liaison Group, or JLG on Law Enforcement Cooperation, has opened in Beijing. Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Liu Zhenmin and Dan Kritenbrink, Deputy Chief of Mission at the US Embassy in Beijing attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches.
Liu said the law enforcement cooperation led by the JLG has contributed to safeguarding people-to-people and business exchanges between the two countries. Liu said this year marks the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and the US, and the JLG will inject more impetus to the development of the new model of major-country relationship between the two sides.
Kritenbrink said the US is willing to promote cooperation with China in the field of law, which serves the interests and needs of both countries. He said JLG is an important mechanism for enhancing information exchanges.
JLG has set up many working groups, such as anti-corruption, fugitives repatriation, recovering illicit assets, anti cyber crime, intellectual property rights and judicial assistance, covering each field of the two countries' cooperation in judicial and law enforcement. It has thus become one of the highlights in China-US practical cooperation.
