China sweeps four titles at the 9th FINA Synchronized Swimming World Trophy

With thematic duet and free combination victories, hosts China claimed all four gold medals at the 9th FINA Synchronized Swimming World Trophy on Sunday in Beijing.

The two-day tournament featured four competition events: synchro highlight routine, thematic duet, free team routine and free combination, attracting synchronized swimmers from Canada, China, Italy, Mexico, Russia, Spain and Ukraine. Solo is shown as the exhibition.

China clinched two titles in synchro highlight routine and free team routine on Saturday.

In Yingdong Swimming Gymnasium, the hosts' duet Li Ang and Ma Shuang performed Beautiful Girls who are keen on singing, collecting a top-ranked 95.3330 points.

The Russian duet, Anastasia Bayandina and Daria Bayandina, finished second, 3.4995 points behind Li and Ma. The Mexican duet Delgado Blanca and Diosdado Nuria finished in the third place with 89.8335 points.

Under the theme Heroines, the Chinese team finished top in free combination with a total of 96.3335 points. The Russian and Spanish team was placed second and third with 95.1665 and 92.8335 points, respectively.

"It shows persistence and softness of women in a modern society. It's what we did to claim the title in National Games last year, and we put something new into it," said Yu Lele, Chinese synchronized swimmer.

After all four events were concluded, China ranked first with a total of 382.6665 points. Russia finished second with 370.8335. The third place went to Canada, who got 362.8335.

"We performed very well today with the materials. I like World Trophy better than other events because it is more creative and impressive," said Silvia Hernandez Mendizabal, coach of Spain.
