Three Chinese workers are among 13 killed in a mudslide at the construction site of a hydroelectric power plant a Chinese company is building about 150 kilometers east of Quito in Ecuador, Caracas-based English-language newspaper Latin American Herald Tribune reported.
Ten Ecuadorians were also killed and about a dozen others were injured when the mudslide occurred at a tunnel of the Coca Codo Sinclair hydroelectric power plant on Saturday night.
China's Sinohydro consortium is building the project, which will supply 36 percent of Ecuador's electricity needs after it starts operating in February 2015.
The $2.2 billion power plant is the largest facility of its kind in the country.
