Impeccance announced 18 years after man executed for rape, murder

An impeccance verdict was given on Monday at a retrial 18 years after a man was sentenced to death and executed in a controversial 1996 rape and murder case in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.

Zhao Jianping, deputy head of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Regional Higher People's Court, on Monday announced the innocence of Huugjilt, and apologized to his parents.

Huugjilt, who was 18 at the time, was found guilty of raping and murdering a woman in a public toilet in Hohhot on April 9, 1996. He was was sentenced to death and executed in June 1996.
