Site provides translations of core Chinese political concepts

China Keywords, a multilanguage online platform (http://www.china.org.cn/english/china_key_words/) that aims to provide easy-to-understand and up-to-date translations of core Chinese political concepts, was launched on Friday.

The first batch of 77 keywords with interpretations and background information was translated into seven languages.

The keywords consist of important concepts from the National People's Congress and new expressions from President Xi Jinping's speeches, such as "confining power to an institutional cage" and "governing a country is like cooking a delicate fish". They were categorized into six topics: socialism with Chinese characteristics, the Chinese dream, comprehensively deepening reform, political development, the international situation and diplomatic strategies.

Translations were done in collaboration with Chinese translators and foreign experts from China International Publishing Group, China Academy of Translation and Translators Association of China.

Wang Gangyi, director of the expert team and a council member of the International Federation of Translators, says the platform is designed for foreign political and business leaders who are interested in getting to know China but have little time to dig into the government's files and whitepapers. "The platform provides them with an easy way to get to know China," Wang says.
