A winter Nadam as well as a fire sacrifice festival kicked off on Tuesday in Old Barag Banner (county) of Hulunbuir, a city of north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.
Popular sports events and entertainment among ethnic Mongolians will highlight this year's winter Nadam.
During a series of sports events, local residents will take in three major activities - horse racing, archery and Mongolian wrestling - as well as a marathon and a skiing competition.
Nadam is a mass traditional Mongolian festival where people celebrate harvests and pray for good luck. The winter Nadam Fair is usually held from December to January.
