State wildlife watchdog said on Monday that this year, 36 giant pandas were bred in captivity, with 32 surviving, bringing the total number of pandas in captivity to 394.

The State Forestry Administration said that the panda population is increasing steadily. This year they have made a record of breeding panda triplets, which all survived.

The administration said that they have stepped up panda rehabilitation training to release them into the wild. They have started using two new wilderness training bases in Tiantai Mountain of Wolong and Huaying Mountain of Sichuan province, and built a new base in Liziping, also in Sichuan province.
