Police arrested for migrant death

A procuratorate in Taiyuan, Shanxi Province Saturday approved the arrest of two police officers on suspicion of beating a migrant worker to death.

The officers, Guo Tiewei and Ren Haibo, were arrested for allegedly abusing power, according to the People's Procuratorate of Taiyuan.

More than 10 migrant workers attempted to enter a construction site on December 13 to seek backpay. The guards stopped them.

A quarrel had developed into a brawl when police arrived. A 47-year-old female migrant worker Zhou Xiuyun died in the incident.

Zhou's family has agreed to conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of her death, the Saturday statement noted.
