The Beijing Railway Administration has announced that rail cars will begin carrying commuters from Yanjiao Station in Hebei Province to Beijing Station on January 12.
Relatively low housing prices in Yanjiao, located just across Beijing's eastern border, have made it a popular choice for people working in Beijing. Commuters reportedly account for half of the town's 300,000 residents.
There are currently four trains running between the two cities, but their departure times make them awkward for commuters. With the increase in people commuting to the city center, railway authorities have decided to add rail cars during the morning and evening rush hours.
Price and departure times for the temporary trains have not been publicized. The price for the current express train between the two stations is 9 yuan ($1.4).
