Alain Perrin, head coach of China's men's national football team, believes that pressure is good for his team who are preparing for their Asian Cup opener against Saudi Arabia.
"To take part in this continental's showpiece event I do feel some pressure," said the former Lyon boss. "I can compare it to the situation when I won the French Cup or in the European Champions League matches.
"When I talk about pressure, it's always something positive, as there is positive pressure and passive pressure. For my players, they just want to play good games and display their talents to the greatest extent. I think that will bring us positive effects."
Perrin spoke highly of their first opponents: "They have very excellent performance during the Gulf Cup, they have talents and resilience, and they've trained together for a long time. They have good attacking in the midfield and up front."
"We have to do our best facing such a strong team. We want to show our characters. I know the Asian Cup is different from the warmups, and we'll try our best," he added.
Talking about tactics, the French coach only revealed that he may make changes even after the last training session before the game against the Saudis.
"Our coaching staff will discuss the lineup this evening and make it tomorrow morning," said Perrin.
Team captain Zheng Zhi stressed the importance of the first game in such a big event.
"The Asian Cup is different from the domestic league and the Asian Champions League," he said. "The start is very difficult and very important. After we get accustomed to the pressure and rhythm, I believe all the players can play their best."
