Jaycee Chan, an actor and son of Chinese kung fu star Jackie Chan, wrote a 3-page letter in prison to his mother, complaining about his famous father, China News Service reported.
Chan, 32, was fined 2,000 yuan (US$322) and sentenced to six months in prison by a Beijing local court after he pled guilty to allowing others to take drugs in his residence at trial on Jan. 9, 2015.
His parents, Jackie Chan and Joan Lin, were not present in court.
China News Service quoted local Hong Kong media, which reported that the younger Chan wrote a 3-page letter of remorse to his mother. Chan, who is reported to have had a closer relationship with his mother than with his busy father, reportedly wrote that though he was born into a celebrity family and had had a carefree life since a young age, as he grew up, Jackie Chan didn't pay attention to him at all, and he had no plans for his future and felt great invisible pressure.
Jaycee Chan expressed regret that he made mistakes and fell in with the wrong people, and he confessed that he took drugs when he felt down. After he got into trouble with drugs last year, he realized what he had been doing was terribly wrong. Knowing that his parents tried everything to help him after his arrest on Aug. 14, 2014, he promised to his mother he would never make such a mistake again and would reform himself.
Chan celebrated his 32nd birthday alone in prison on Dec. 3, 2014. His parents sent their birthday wishes to him through attorneys, asking him to use his time in prison for self-reflection but saying they will always love him.
Jaycee Chan's manager also told media that Jackie Chan and Joan Lin saw their son for the first time in five months on the Internet live broadcast of his trial on Jan. 9. His mother cried when she saw her son.
Chan's manager also said that Jaycee Chan had read more than 100 books in prison and had written some songs.
Chan will be a free man sometime around Valentine's Day this year.
Jaycee Chan was not the only high-profile figure that was arrested for drug use in 2014. There were several more, including singer Li Daimo, director Zhang Yuan, actors Gao Hu, Zhang Mo and Roy Cheung, screen writer Ning Caishen, TV hostess Wang Jing and popular Chinese singer Yin Xiangjie.
